Quick Tour of Pendarren House

 

Pendarren House, with its large garden and outbuildings was built in 1876. In 1972 it was purchased by Haringey Council and adapted for its present use, since then thousands of visitors have encountered the Pendarren Experience. There are three accommodation blocks:
The Main House
The Greig Annexe
The Firs

The Main House and Annexe are available as part of the inclusive residential package, the Firs is available for self-catering groups.
Often there are two schools in residence occupying the House and Annexe.

Below is an outline of the on-site facilities at Pendarren House.

 

The Main House  
The Main House still retains its original character and provides excellent accommodation with comfortable dormitories and spacious rooms for work and relaxation.The dormitories on the first floor can accommodate up to 40 people (9+8+10+6+4+2+1). There are two lounges, dining room, two study rooms with an interactive whiteboard and internet access, drying room,toilets and showers plus a small tuckshop.
Greig Annexe  
The Greig Annexe can take up to 24 people (10+10+2+1+1). The Annexe contains its own lounge, toilets and showers and has internet access. Groups who use this accommodation will share the dining room, drying room, study rooms and tuck shop with the Main House.
The Firs  
The Firs self-catering bungalow has 5 en-suite bedrooms sleeping 16 (4+4+4+2+2), including two twin rooms, one of which has toilet/shower facilities accessable to wheelcahirs.The building is DDA compliant with all but one bedroom being accessable by wheelchair. It has an adjacent garage with washing/drying facilities, a small garden and wonderful views across Pendarren's fields and the Grywne valley.

It is suitable for education or family groups, gatherings of friends or colleagues, or any time when a small group would like to get together for a relaxing or an active break. Users of the The Firs can buy in half or full day activities from Pendarren.
Swimming Pool  
There is a small, enclosed swimming pool at Pendarren which, depending on the temperature, is used from Easter to October. It can be used for training with kayaks e.g. support strokes and rolling.
Countryside Study Centre  
This is a large, well-equipped classroom block separate to the main building, which is used for briefings and for evening follow up work. It is equipped with an interactive whiteboard, toilets, showers, a good range of field study and laboratory equipment as well as a library.There is also a computer suite which can be used by groups for follow up work and for writing journals. The building is also available for separate hire and can seat up to 80.
Climbing Tower

Pendarren has a 12 metre high climbing and abseiling tower. In addition there is an all-ability area with low angle climbing and a wheelchair abseil site, and a bouldering wall in the Annexe.

High Ropes Course
This 12 metre high tower provides an exciting range of challenges for groups and indiduals. It enables groups of young people or adults to develop interpersonal skills through sharing challenges such as the Jacobs Ladder or All Aboard.
As well as being tremendous fun the High Ropes Course is a focus for planned activities providing personal development training for children and adults.
Camp Site
As an alternative to using the accommodation in the Centre, a small camp site is available in the grounds for use during the summer months. There is space for groups of up to 15 people. There is acovered cooking area, toilest and showers and groups can hire the Countryside Study Centre if they require a large room.This facility is intended for independent, self programming groups. Help with programme planning is available, including assistance with the aquisition of any specialist staff required. However, in addition to the small charge for the campsite, the cost of transport and staffing is the responsibility of the group.

Pendarren House has several acres of grounds that include:

Tepee for group work
Football/volleyball area
Bushcraft area
Orienteering courses
Low ropes course
Sensory garden

Other

Fleet of well maintained minibuses including one 14 seat that can take one wheelchair, and a 26 seater coach that can take two wheelchairs.
An all-terrain wheelchair is also available.
